Pride Outlasts Spirits

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 GREENSBORO, NC--Greensboro's softball team gutted out a pair of victories on Saturday, as they hosted the Salem Spirits.  Starting pitcher Cheyanne Cox went all seven innings from the mound in game one, throwing a complete game shutout.  She allowed just two hits, while fanning 13 Salem batters.

Greensboro stayed in a pitching duel until the 5th inning, when Kailey Walker hit a RBI-single to right center, bringing in the first run of the game.  Then Alexis Sox hit another RBI base hit to bring in the second run of the inning.  While being limited to two runs on six hits for the game, this proved to be more than enough as Cox shut down the Salem offense to close out the victory for the Pride..

Game two saw the Pride offense on display as they closed out the afternoon with a 6-3 win.

Kassie Simmons put GC up early on a 1st inning sacrifice fly, but Greensboro would trail until the 4th when Ivy Ray pushed across the tying run, then a RBI-single from M'Kenzie Davis put the Pride ahead for good with a RBI-liner up the middle.

Greensboro would pad the lead with two more runs in the 6th inning on a Hannah French RBI-triple to bring in two more runs, followed by a RBI-single from Caroline Stanley to bring in French.

Kassie Simmons closed out her complete game effort from the mound with the bases loaded in the 7th inning on a strikeout.

Greensboro's sweep moves them to 17-5 on the season, and they will look to stay on track, traveling to Division III top ranked Christopher Newport tomorrow for a doubleheader starting at 2:00 pm.
