Baseball Splits with Methodist

GREENSBORO, NC.---Greensboro College's Drake Carrick's 2-RBI single proved the difference as the Pride claimed a Saturday afternoon USA South Athletic Conference (USA South) victory over Methodist University, 10-8 in game one of a doubleheader..

The Pride overcame a quick start from the Monarchs, who jumped out to a 2-0 1st inning lead.

Greensboro closed the lead after a Braxton King solo homerun in the 2nd inning made the score 2-1.

The Pride would go on top as Drake Carrick hit a 2-run RBI double in the 3rd inning to put the Pride ahead 5-4, and then his 2-RBI single in the 7th put the Pride on top 8-5.  Carrick would finish the day 2-3 with four RBI to lead the Pride offense.

Alex Morales went 3-5 with a RBI, and Luke Pegram went 3-4, providing a spark for the Pride's offense that erupted for 15 hits and 10 runs.

Hayden Woods and Dylan Ward came in relief of starting pitcher, Jake Baldini, who went six strong innngs to earn the win.

In game two, Methodist capitalized on four Pride errors to get a 8-3 victory.  Spencer Nelson for the Monarchs went 3-5 with 2 RBI, and Chase Carroll came on in relief to pitch four innings and earn the win.

Braxton Rupp went 2-3 with a RBI sacrifice fly to tie the game at 1-1 for the Pride.  However, three runs apiece in the 4th and 6th innings for the Monarchs that were each extended by Pride fielding errors would be too much to overcome, as Methodist fought to get the split for the day.

The Pride returns to action tomorrow, facing Methodist for a 1 p.m. contest at Ted Leonard Park.
