Greensboro's women's basketball team got a tough test on Saturday afternoon (February 5), as the Pride were able to win a thrilling 87-84 game at Hanes Gym. Greensboro jumped out to a 16-7 lead at the end of the first quarter after
Quadijah Moore put in a layup with 1:03 left in the opening frame. Greensboro would build it's lead by as many as 18 in the second quarter and would head into halftime with a 42-26 lead.
NC Wesleyan would not go away quietly, as Nadia Simmons led the comeback for the Bishops. Her 20 points helped NC Wesleyan climb all the way back to tie the game at 75 with 4:22 left in the game.
Greensboro's
Lauren Livingston put the Pride up 3 after a clutch, step-back 3-pointer put the Pride up 80-77. NC Wesleyan would battle back, and would take the lead at 84-82 with only 41 seconds left after a layup from Kayrisma Harrison.
The play of the game came with 26 seconds left, when
Audrey Jennings hit a 3-point shot that achingly hovered over the rim before dropping in for the winning shot at 85-84. The Pride would hold on in the final seconds to put the game away 87-84.
Greensboro hopes to extend its 14 game winning streak to 15 tomorrow (February 6th) against Salem at 4:00 PM.
