Box Score Fayetteville, NC – On Saturday night, the Greensboro College Football team hit the road for the final time this season, as they traveled south to face Methodist University at Monarch Stadium. There was a lot of emotion in the air as Methodist honored their Seniors prior to kick-off. Coach Card and his team were looking to close out their last two games of the season on a winning note and it began tonight in Fayetteville.
In the first quarter, the Pride were beneficiaries of two Monarch pass interference calls, allowing the offense to move into the red zone at the 3:09 mark. However, a false start on Greensboro, negated some of that yardage. The Pride would eventually get on the board when Junior
Marano Collins (Loganville, GA) converted a 30 yard FG, his longest of the season, to take the 3-0 lead and that is how the quarter would end.
Methodist wasted no time as the second quarter began, marching the ball down the field for a touchdown and they followed that up on the next series with a pick six, to suddenly go up by a score of 14-3. On Greensboro's next offensive possession, Redshirt Senior Quarterback,
David Loughry II (Indian Land, SC) orchestrated an 11 play, 80 yard drive that concluded with him connecting with fellow Redshirt Senior
Cale Matthews (Four Oks, NC) for an 8 yard touchdown pass, to pull the Pride to within four points, 14-10. Unfortunately, the Monarchs had an answer and marched down the field to increase their lead back to 11 points, 21-10, as the half came to a close.
Methodist came out of the locker room and found the end zone on a 65 yard run play, to strike first in the third quarter, taking a 27-10 advantage. Greensboro was able to move the ball to midfield but they would turn the ball over, ending the drive. On the next series, the defense forced a punt and the Pride offense quickly took advantage as Loughry found Redshirt Senior
Zach Atkinson (Durham, NC) for an 80 yard touchdown pass, trimming the lead to 27-17. Sophomore
Max Steele (Julian, NC) scooped up a Monarchs fumble and suddenly the Pride were back on offense. Unfortunately, their drive would stall and Greensboro had to punt. Methodist took advantage and added another touchdown to close out the quarter leading 34-17.
The fourth quarter began with the Monarchs finding the end zone again to increase their lead to 41-17. However, Junior Back-Up Quarterback,
Alec Williams-Carr (Miami, FL) came in the game and put together a 14 play, 77 yard drive, resulting in an 8 yard touchdown pass to Junior
Ryan Buchanan (Havelock, NC) in the corner of the end zone. Methodist answered again with a touchdown run and that is how the game would end ,with the Pride falling by a final score of 48-23.
For Greensboro, Loughry and Williams combined for 25 completions on 52 attempts, throwing for 388 yards with 3 touchdowns and 2 interceptions, while Matthews hauled in a total of 4 catches for 70 yards and a touchdown. Steele led the defense with 12 total tackles and Freshman
Andrew Burgess (Fort Washington, MD) had three punt returns, with a long of 24 yards. The Pride will return home for their final game of the season as they host North Carolina Wesleyan next Saturday, November 12
th, at Pride Field. Kick-off is scheduled for Noon and the program's Seniors will be honored prior to the game.
