Men's Soccer Falls To Brevard In Penalty Kicks

Box Score Brevard, NC - After falling 1-0 to Brevard College last week, the Greensboro College Men's Soccer team had an opportunity Tuesday afternoon to return the favor as the Pride and Tornados met again, this time in the opening round of the USA South Tournament.  After finishing the regular season with an overall record of 4-8-6, Greensboro was looking for the opportunity to keep their season alive and move onto the tournament semifinals.

Despite being outshot 27-11, the Pride, held Brevard scoreless through regulation and double overtime.  Sophomore Goalkeeper, Lee Carrico, kept his team in the game, recording a game high 16 saves, while the defense withstood the Tornados' offensive opportunities.  Greensboro had a number of scoring chances as Freshman Collin Thomas fired off seven shots but unfortunately they were not able to get past the Brevard goalkeeper.  The Pride's strong performance would force the game into penalty kicks, where they would have the chance to win the game.  After Seniors Jovan Cotton and Issac Haddock, along with Freshman Nate Gordon converted their penalty kick attempts, Greensboro had the opportunity to pull even, but Sophomore Luis Cazarin-Plazola's attempt was stopped, bringing the Pride's season to an end.

With the loss, Greensboro concludes the year with a 4-9-6 overall record.  On the season, the Pride was led by Collins who tallied 4 goals and 1 assist, while the goalkeepers combined for an overall save percentage of .735.  Stay tuned to www.greensborocollegesports.com for all your Greensboro College Men's Soccer team news and notes.
