Women's Soccer Battles to a Tie On the Road

Greensboro, N.C. - The Greensboro College Women's Soccer team traveled to Brevard College to continue USA South Athletic Conference play on Tuesday. The Pride, winners of 3 of their last 4 matches, would be looking to put their name into the conversation as potential conference champs.

The first half of the game featured several scoring chances but both goaltenders handled their opponents' shots for the most part. However, the Pride would break the deadlock as Grace Dobson would make the acrobatic header from the goal mouth to send the Pride to a 1-0 halftime lead. Cassie Olszewski was credited with the assist on the goal scoring play. Freshman goalie Sofia Pagnamenta successfully fended off three shots to keep the Tornados of the scoreboard after 45 minutes of play.

The second half would begin and no matter how the Pride may have felt about the early advantage, that would all change very quickly as Alyssa Hetherington would find the back of the net less than two minutes into the second half to knot the score at 1's. The next 43 minutes will be played to a draw as both teams had several chances to score but the winning goal was not in the cards.

The finale would read 1-1 as the Pride would move to 3-5-3 on the season and an undefeated 1-0-1 in conference play. The Pride outshot the Tornados 13 to 9 on the evening. Pagnamenta made 6 saves in the contest.

GC Head Women's Soccer Coach Mike Johnston had these post-game comments: "I felt like we started the game as the aggressor and dominated play early on, but we have to finish our chances. We were up at the break after a great goal by Grace, and we have learn to protect leads. We let their physicality affect us in the second half and we just need to be a bit tougher at times. That being said, we earned a point in a challenging environment and I am proud of the group."

The GC Soccer Women's team will play next on Saturday, October 8th, at Pride Field against William Peace University. Game time is 4:00PM.
