Greensboro, N.C. - The Greensboro College Soccer team would step out of conference to host Atlantis University, located in Miami, Florida, on Sunday afternoon.
The Atlanteans, coming to town with a 7-2-2 record, would be battling a Pride team whose play was improving each time out. Players and fans alike would be subjected to light rain and mild winds throughout the spirited contest.
The first half would be controlled by ball movement and defense. Shots on goal and good footing were scarce as the ball remained in the center of the field for the most part. The Pride did have the majority of the favorable chances in the period and one of those would pay off at the 28:04 mark of the half. Craig Thomas, the most dynamic offensive player on this team currently, maneuvered the ball for approximately 20 yards with a defender riding his left hip. Thomas kept the defender at bay with physicality and rifled a right-footer to the top right corner of the net to crack the tie. That goal would be the only tally of the half as the Pride would also enter the break with a 4 to 3 shot on goal advantage as well.
The second half would find the Atlanteans becoming more physical and spending a great deal of time in the Pride's end of the field. They would dominate the shots of goal for the half by a 9 to 2 margin and the Pride's back line of
Parker Spesock, Issac Haddock,
Alexander Sargeant, and Goalie
Lee Carrico (5 Saves) would fend off multiple offensive attacks before letting one get through late at the 74:39 mark, on a Luis Guerra goal to tie the game. Neither team would be able to find the back of the net the rest of the way and the game would end in a hard fought 1-1 deadlock.
The GC Men's Soccer team will next compete on Wednesday, October 5th, as they travel to Buena Vista, VA to play Southern Virginia University at 4:00PM.
