Greensboro College Athletes Garner Player of the Week Honors

Greensboro, N.C. - The Greensboro College Volleyball team had an outstanding week as they went 3 and 0 and moved toward the top of the USA South Athletic Conference standings. A huge part of their success was due to a freshman outside hitter Payton Shiflet. Payton was named the USA South Rookie of the Week for the week of October 3, 2022. Shiflet, from Asheboro, NC, averaged 5.56 kills, with a 3.64 hitting percentage, and 3.67 digs per set as the Pride swept the competition while besting conference foes Brevard, Methodist, and Meredith. Shiflet posted a pair of double-doubles with her personal match-highs included 27 kills, 17 digs, 3 service aces, two assists, and one block (twice). To watch Payton and her teammates, the Pride's next home volleyball game is Tuesday, October 4 th against crosstown rival Guilford College at 7:00PM. Congratulations Payton!

Cristian Del Cid Portillo, a junior goalkeeper from Dunn, NC, was honored with Defender of the Week for October 3, 2022, by the USA South Athletic Conference, for his 1-0 shutout of Carolina University. Del Cid Portillo would make 8 saves in the contest while playing the full 90 minutes. To watch Cristian and his fellow Pride teammates, the team will play their next home game on Wednesday, October 12th, against Mary Baldwin University at 4:00PM at Pride Field. Congratulations Crisitian!

The Greensboro College Women's Soccer team enjoyed an impressive win this week over Pfeiffer University by a score of 4-0. The USA South Athletic Conference has recognized two Pride players on their Athletes of the Week listings for the week of October 3rd , 2022. The Pride winning nominees include: Women's Soccer Defender of the Week- Julia Howland The Blacksburg, Virginia freshman defender helped lead the Pride to the Pfeiffer win in the team's only contest of the week. The Howland led defense only allowed three shots on goal in the match.

Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week- Cassidy Olszewski - The Fort Pierce, Florida first-year midfielder scored two goals in the victory over Pfeiffer. Olszewski tallied her first career goal with 27 seconds remaining in the first half and the second in the 78th minute. If interested in seeing both Julia, Cassidy, and the rest of the GC Women's Soccer team, their next date at Pride Field will be on Saturday, October 8th, at 4:00PM. The opponent will be William Peace University. Congratulations Julia and Cassidy!
