Even in the 103-90 loss, the Pride flashed their offensive prowess as they traveled to NC Wesleyan for a showdown with the Battling Bishops on Saturday night (January 22). NC Wesleyan's Damon McDowell's 30 points, and the Bishops 46 to 32 rebounding advantage proved too much for the Pride to overcome
A frigid start put the Pride in a hole early, as the Bishops jumped out to a 13-0 lead before Senior
Kevon Meertins hit a 3 point basket at the 15:35 mark of the first half to get Greensboro on the board. The game turned into a back and forth affair as both teams were able to execute on the offensive end. Senior Guard
Ty Hill hit a key layup with 27 seconds remaining in the first half to cut the Bishop's lead to 45-31 heading into the break. Â
The Pride saw four players reach double figures in points, led by Meertin's 27. Hill's 20 points and five assists were key to keeping Greensboro within striking distance. Freshman
Trajan Weatherspoon's timely made layup at the 10:20 mark of the second half got the Pride within 10.
However, the Bishops proved too much as they were able to hit key free throws down the stretch, and defended their home court with a 103-90 final score.
Greensboro looks to get back into the win column as they head to Buena Vista, VA to play Southern Virginia University next Tuesday January 25 at 6:00 PM.
