GREENSBORO, N.C.—Greensboro College Director of Athletics Kim Strable announced the appointment of Manbi Nyepon as head men's soccer coach. Nyepon replaces six-year head coach Tony Falvino who elected to join the soccer staff as an assistant coach at NCAA DI Mercer University.
"Nyepon believes in the holistic approach to coaching, so he cares about the development of the player and person far beyond the pitch," Strable said. "His focus on culture-building and team chemistry and bonding will be a cornerstone of his view of success."
Nyepon comes to The Pride after spending the past four seasons as an assistant coach at George Washington University, where he also worked with the goalkeepers. Over his four years, his keepers gave up an average of 1.31 goals per game including 20 shutouts.
"Returning to Greensboro is like coming home," Nyepon said. "It feels great to return to a place where my soccer career was planted. I'm looking forward to returning to my community, alma mater, and leading the men's soccer program."
Prior to going to George Washington, Nyepon spent a season at American University, where the Eagles topped the Patriot League regular season standings before falling in penalty kicks in the tournament final. His keepers combined to cede just 1.20 goals per game, including six shutouts.
"While Greensboro has a solid program already in place; my tenure with George Washington University (GWU) has shown the importance of community involvement and building alumni relationships," Nyepon added. "I believe the way we treat people on and off the field will always be our competitive advantage."
Before his move to the nation's capital, Nyepon spent two seasons here at Greensboro College. The Pride advanced to the USA South Athletic Conference final both years.
"It is always great for alumni to have the opportunity to return to their alma mater to coach and we're delighted to welcome Coach Neypon home," Strable mentioned.
In net at Greensboro College, Nyepon made the NSCAA All-Region second team twice. As a senior, he helped the Pride to a conference title and berth in the NCAA Division III Tournament. He recorded nine shutouts over his two seasons in uniform.
Nyepon, a native of Liberia on the Coast of West Africa, graduated from Greensboro's Page High School before starting his college career at Cape Fear Community College in Wilmington, N.C.
Falvino exits Greensboro as he compiled an overall record of 75-29-4 and a conference record of 49-10-3. His squads advanced to the conference semifinals or finals each season, and claimed two USA South Regular Season Titles (2015 and 2018) as he was named the USA South Coach of the Year in 2015.
