GREENSBORO, N.C.---Greensboro College's
Braxton Rupp tallied three RBI for the Pride as Greensboro dropped a Wednesday afternoon contest to Roanoke College, 18-11.
Rupp sparked life into the Pride in the bottom of the third inning in response to an eight-run Roanoke rally when he followed a lead-off
Chance Bryant walk with a long home run to left field with no outs in the inning. Greensboro began to gain momentum as the Pride posted another two-run rally in the bottom of the fifth inning as
Aaron Smith sparked the rally with a bases-loaded walk. A wild pitch during the next at-bat posted the Pride's second run on the board.
The Pride's comeback bid continued into the seventh inning after a Smith walk with one out drew a base runner. Rodriguez reached base after an errant throw to first base that posted the Pride's first run of the inning. Rodriguez reached third base and later came home to score on a wild pitch as the Pride posted a three-run rally in the inning.
Roanoke countered when they loaded the bases in the top of the eighth inning where P.K. Cocolis connected on a grand slam to extend the lead. The Pride countered in the next half-inning with a
Cameron Peters one-out RBI-single, but the Maroons held on for the win.
Rupp finished two-for-two with a home run and three RBI for the first muti-hit effort from the Pride. Garvey Jr. finished two-for-six for his 13th multi-hit effort of the season.
Casey Moore rounded out the Pride's multi-hit efforts, batting two-for-four.
The Pride return to action Saturday with a USA South doubleheader with Pfeiffer University beginning at 1 p.m. at Ted Leonard Park.
