Miller Nets Four Goals as Pride Beat Methodist on Senior Day

GREENSBORO, N.C.----Greensboro College's Davis Miller tallied a team-high four goals as the Pride claimed a Saturday afternoon USA South Athletic Conference (USA South) victory over Methodist University, 16-7.

The Pride (7-1, 3-1 USA South) scored the first four goals of the contest as Greensboro peppered the Monarchs early with two of those goals coming from William Beyer on back-to-back scores. Methodist responded with three of the next four goals as the contest rolled into the second period with the Monarchs scoring two of those goals ten seconds apart with 6:22 left in the period.

Miller scored his first goal in response to the Methodist rally at the 5:30 mark on a feed from Gage Pearman. Methodist's Kit Allman stopped the rally with a goal 16 seconds before the end of the period as the Pride took a 9-4 lead into halftime.

Miller responded again as he took matters into his own hands with 9:40 left in the third quarter to post the Pride's tenth goal. After scoring his first goal of the game with 4:39 left in the third quarter, Ethan Pierce teamed up with Miller at the 12:03 mark of the fourth quarter as the Pride created a larger distance from the Monarchs. The senior netted his final goal at the 5:31 mark of the period as the Pride earned the win.

Miller finished with four goals and one assist while amassing six ground balls. Austin Abourjilie tied Miller for the team-high in points, posting one goal and four assists. Beyer finished with three goals and one assist while Gage Pearman added two goals and two assists.

Chase Henderson won 18 of 27 faceoffs and tallied a team-high 12 ground balls while adding a goal. Justin Matthews led Greensboro's long poles with five ground balls while adding a caused turnover. Brandon Luft added three ground balls and a team-high two caused turnovers.

Hunter Vaughan led the Monarchs with three points on one goal and two assists. Tyler Bennett added two goals with five ground balls. Justice Davis led Methodist's long poles with three ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Christopher Stallings (7-1) took the win for the Pride in net, making six saves. Methodist's Cameron Brink (4-4) took the loss for the Monarchs, stopping 13 shots.

The Pride, off to their best start since 2009, return to action Wednesday with a 4 p.m. USA South contest at Pfeiffer.
