The Greensboro College men's soccer team traveled to Covenant College to face the Scots in the first round of the USA South Tournament. The Pride fell on the road, 3-1.
In the first half, Covenant scored the opening goal in the sixth minute as Mercer Stout scored off a pass from Keegan Weekley.
Greensboro evened the score in the 34th minute.
Darli Mihindou headed in a pass from
William Curry for his sixth goal of the season. The even score was short-lived as the Scots recaptured the lead three minutes later as Stout netted his second goal of the contest.
At the half, Covenant led 2-1 with advantage in shots on goal (6-2) as both teams had two corner kicks.
The score remained 2-1 until the 57th minute. A foul in the box was called against Greensboro to give the Scots a penalty kick. Parker Owen scored the PK to put the hosts up by two (3-1).
Covenant held on for the win and outshot the Pride, 9-3 and had six corner kicks compared to four for GC.
Greensboro ends the 2021 season 8-8-2 overall and 4-1-2 in the USA South.
