GREENSBORO, N.C.---Greensboro College Men's Wrestling Coach
Kevin Birmingham announced a re-tooled 2020-2021 schedule earlier today that condenses what is normally a longer season schedule.
All scheduled times and meets are subject to change throughout the season and additions can be made to the schedule at any moment.
All familiar foes within the regional collegiate wrestling scene grace the condensed schedule this Winter, beginning at the Averett tri-meet Wednesday, January 20th. The Pride will tangle with both the Cougars and Patrick Henry Community College throughout the evening, beginning at 6:00 p.m. The tri-meet will feature the first matchup with the Patriots in program history. The Pride and the Cougars face off, head-to-head, for the fourth time in series history with Averett claiming a 2-1 advantage all-time against Greensboro. The Pride also boast another win at Averett, claiming victory in the 16-team Averett Invitational in 2018-2019.
Allen University travels from Columbia, S.C. to face the Pride inside the Reynolds Center Gym Friday, January 22nd at 7 p.m. This is the second head-to-head match between Greensboro and Allen with the Pride claiming a 49-3 victory on February 2nd, 2017 in a tri-meet at St. Andrews University.
Another tri-meet follows the next Friday, January 29th at 7:00 p.m. in Bluefield, Va. as the Pride face both Bluefield College and Emory & Henry College. This will mark the first matchup with both schools as Bluefield enters their fourth season of competition while Emory & Henry starts their first year of men's wrestling in preparation to transition into Division II.
The Pride travel to Ferrum College Wednesday, February 3rd for a 7 p.m. head-to-head meet in the fifth all-time meeting. Ferrum claimed a 30-9 victory over the Pride last season in Greensboro on November 6, 2019. Ferrum jumped to a 19-0 lead, but the Pride caught up late in the meet. The Pride look to claim their first win over the Panthers as Ferrum holds a 4-0 all-time advantage in head-to-head meetings.
St. Andrews then hosts the Pride two days later on Friday, February 5th. Greensboro holds a 3-1 head-to-head series advantage over the Knights. The Pride claimed a 45-9 win over St. Andrews last season on January 22nd, 2020 in Laurinburg, N.C.
The Pride take to the mat again the very next day at Southern Virginia University for their fifth all-time meeting with the Knights. The Pride hold a 3-1 advantage in all-time meetings and claimed a 38-9 victory over Southern Virginia January 16th, 2020.
Greensboro's top wrestlers will keep their eyes on the NCAA Division III Southeast Regional February 26-27 and NCAA Division III Championships March 12-13, which did not take place last season due to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Kevin Birmingham's wrestlers finished with a 2-3 overall record and advanced six wrestlers to the NCAA Division III Southeast Regional in 2019-2020.
Hai Siu claimed second-place honors in the regional meet and was the second-ever Pride wrestler to earn a spot in the NCAA Division III Championships.
