GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College men's lacrosse team defeated the Pirates of Hampton University Wednesday 15-11.
Phillip Gerber gave Greensboro a one-goal lead just four minutes into the first period before the Pirates tied the game 45 seconds later. However, the Pride scored the next five goals of the period to take a 6-1 lead before going into the second with a 6-2 lead.
Austin Abourjilie,
Ethan Pierce,
Michael Sehlhorst,
Davis Miller, and
Spencer Kontoulas each accounted for one goal.
Over the first two minutes of the second, Hampton pulled back to within two goals, but Greensboro struck for four goals over the next 13 minutes to take a 10-3 lead into halftime.
In the third period, Hampton was able to battle back to within four goals, but it was not enough as Greensboro held on down the stretch for the victory.
Abourjilie and Kontoulas both had three goals on the day.
Christopher Stallings was credited with the win in goal after recording eight saves.
