BEREA, Ky. – The Greensboro College women's basketball team fell to the Mountaineers of Berea College in the quarterfinal round of the USA South Women's Basketball Tournament Saturday 86-63.
Over the first three minutes of the first period, Berea went on a 7-0 run before
Ashley Free hit a three-pointer to cap of a 5-0 Pride run to pull back to within two points. However, Berea was one again able to pull extend their lead back out to as many as eight points late in the period, but the Pride battled back to within 20-18, following a pair of three-pointer by
Katie Lewis, before going into the second period trailing 21-18.
Despite appearing to have momentum on their side after closing out the first period strong, Greensboro could not get anything going offensively in the second and found themselves trailing at halftime by a 44-28 margin.
Over the final 20 minutes of play, Greensboro continued to battle but could not get any closer than 11 points before falling by the 23-point margin.
Free finished with a team-leading 20 points and four rebounds, while Lewis also finished in double figures with 16 points. With the loss, the Pride women conclude their 2019-2020 season with an overall record of 15-11.
