ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – The Greensboro College women's basketball team fell to the Battling Bishops of North Carolina Wesleyan College Wednesday 80-68.
In the first period, N.C. Wesley was able to establish a 10-3 lead over the first four minutes before the Pride put together a 6-0 run over the next two minutes to pull themselves back to within one.
Following the run, Greensboro began to struggle from the field and went into the second period trailing 19-12.
Over the first four minutes of the period, the Bishops extended their lead out to 16 points, but the Pride was able to mount a 14-2 run to pull within 36-32, following a layup by
Katie Lewis, before going into halftime trailing by six.
As the third period got underway, Greensboro was able to once again put together a strong run and regained a four-point lead of their own with 5:59 showing on the clock. After trading baskets over the next three minutes,
Nichelle Jeffries hit a layup to make the score 49-42, which proved to be the largest lead of the contest for Greensboro.
However, the Pride began to struggle once again as the Bishops battled back over the final three minutes of the third period to take a 57-54 lead before pulling away for the 12-point victory in the fourth.
Lewis finished with a team-high 16 points, while
Ashley Free chipped in 13 points.
Sabria Joseph also finished in double figures with 11 points to go along with a team-leading nine rebounds.
