Men's Soccer Falls To Mary Baldwin 4-3 In USA South Action

STAUNTON, Va. – The Greensboro College men's soccer team fell to Mary Baldwin University Wednesday in USA South Athletic Conference action 4-3.

Greensboro got on the board first in the seventh minute after Christian Thomas found Jordy Briceno just inside the 18-yard box and slotted the ball into the upper right hand corner of the goal for his fifth goal of the season.

However, the Pride advantage did not hold for long as the Squirrels found the equalizer just over a minute later. Greensboro then regained the lead in the 10th minute when Joel Gonzalez-Ramirez scored off of an assist from Darli Mihindou.

Following the Greensboro goal, Mary Baldwin once again tied the game in the 16th minute before going into the half tied at two goals apiece.

In the early minutes of the second half, Mary Baldwin was able to take a one-goal lead of their own before extending their lead to two goals in the 79th minute.

Greensboro did not give up as they got another goal in the 85th minute after Christian Thomas found the back of the net off an assist from Briceno to pull the Pride back to within one goal but unfortunately they could no not get any closer, falling by the one-goal margin.

"It was a disappoint, very disappointing result today," Head Coach Tony Falvino said. "I thought we started well and created multiple chances through out the game. Unfortunately a lack of maturity and focus allowed our opponent to capitalize on the chances they created. Full credit to them for their work rate and persistence.

"We need look at ourselves and always strive to play to be at our best as individuals and as apart of the the men's soccer program. We have a quick turn around around to play Averett at home Saturday."

Elmer Martinez took the loss in goal despite making three saves while Ronan Lawrence collected on save.

The Pride men will return to action Saturday when they host the Cougars of Averett University. For more information on Greensboro College men's soccer, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
