Pride Women Blank Marymount In Home Opener 5-0

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College women's soccer team defeated the Saints of Marymount University Saturday 5-0.

Greensboro got on the board first in the 11th minute when Haley Russell found the back of the net to give the Pride a 1-0 lead.

The score then remained the same until the 47th minute when Greensboro began to pull away. Just two minutes in to the second half, the Pride extended their lead to 2-0 after Mercedes Bauza scored her first goal of the afternoon off and assist from Anna Rae Porcelli.

Greensboro then added to their lead in the 57th minute as Natalie Habich recorded an assist on a goal by Keeley Catarineau before Madi Bettencourt made it 4-0 with her first goal of the season.

Following the Bettencourt goal, Bauza put the icing on the cake with her second goal of the afternoon.

"After a slow start to the game, the girls made good adjustments in the second half and had a number of quality finishes," Head Coach Jordan May said. "The back line and goalkeepers had a solid performance and did well to shut down our opponent's attack.

"We enjoyed having some alumnae, families, and friends in attendance for our home opener and we are looking forward to Wednesday's game."

The Pride women will return to action Wednesday when they host the Maroons of Roanoke College. For more information on Greensboro College women's soccer, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
