GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College women's soccer team defeated the Saints of Marymount University Saturday 5-0.
Greensboro got on the board first in the 11
th minute when
Haley Russell found the back of the net to give the Pride a 1-0 lead.
The score then remained the same until the 47
th minute when Greensboro began to pull away. Just two minutes in to the second half, the Pride extended their lead to 2-0 after
Mercedes Bauza scored her first goal of the afternoon off and assist from
Anna Rae Porcelli.
Greensboro then added to their lead in the 57
th minute as
Natalie Habich recorded an assist on a goal by
Keeley Catarineau before
Madi Bettencourt made it 4-0 with her first goal of the season.
Following the Bettencourt goal, Bauza put the icing on the cake with her second goal of the afternoon.
"After a slow start to the game, the girls made good adjustments in the second half and had a number of quality finishes," Head Coach
Jordan May said. "The back line and goalkeepers had a solid performance and did well to shut down our opponent's attack.
"We enjoyed having some alumnae, families, and friends in attendance for our home opener and we are looking forward to Wednesday's game."
