MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Kara Whitson tallied 12 goals to lead the Greensboro College women's lacrosse team to their third straight victory with a 16-14 win against the Hawks of Huntingdon College.
Huntingdon scored the game's first three goals before Whitson found the back of the net for the first time.
The Hawks then scored another goal 20 seconds later before
Madison Blashaw pulled Greensboro back to within two before Whitson tied the game with two straight goals.
Over the final 10:34 of the half, Huntingdon tallied three goals while Whitson tacked on three more goals of her own to send the game into halftime tied at seven.
Much like the first half, the Hawks scored the first three goals before Blashaw and Whitson hit the back of the net to make the score 10-9.
However, Greensboro went on to outscore the Hawks 7-4 over the final 17 minutes to secure the two-goal victory.
"This game was a perfect definition of a "gut check game"," Head Coach
Kevin Birmingham said. "The girls really believed they could win and they did just that.
"This was a team earned victory, while we also had some outstanding individual performances. We will get back to work and get ready for N.C. Wesleyan."
Sada Hollowell picked up the win in goal and recorded 16 saves.
