GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College women's lacrosse team defeated the Panthers of Ferrum College Wednesday 18-14.
Greensboro got on the board in the first minute as
Cheyenne Petrillo-Lavier found the back to the net to give the Pride a 1-0 lead.
After Ferrum scored the game's next two goals, Greensboro went on an 8-2 run over the next 19 minutes to establish a 9-4 lead.
Kara Whitson tallied four goals during the spurt, while
Morgan Montgomery and
Madison Blashaw combined for the other four goals.
Following the run, Ferrum was able to pull within 9-5 before Montgomery struck once again to give Greensboro a 10-5 lead at the break.
The Pride then extended their lead to 13-5 over the first seven minutes of the second period as Whitson,
Murphie Davis, and
Casey Connors found the net.
With the Pride holding on to the eight-goal lead, Ferrum outscored the Pride 9-5 over the final 20 minutes of the game but Greensboro was able to hold off the Panthers of secure the four-goal victory.
Sada Hollowell made 12 saves and was credited with the win.
The Pride women will return to action Saturday when they travel to Huntingdon College for a USA South Athletic Conference showdown with the Hawks.
