GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College women's lacrosse team defeated the Tornados of Brevard College Saturday in a USA South Athletic Conference battle 12-9.
 
Brevard jumped out to a one-goal lead just 1:15 into the first half before Morgan Montgomery and Kara Whitson scored to put Greensboro on top 2-1.
 
After the Tornados tied the game three minutes later, Cheyanne Petrillo-Lavier tallied two straight goals before Montgomery struck for a second time to make the score 5-2 with 11:21 on the clock.
 
Over the final 11 minutes of the half, Brevard outscored the Pride 3-0 to tie the game at five heading into the halftime break.
 
Murphie Davis then gave Greensboro a 6-5 lead just two minutes into the second half, but Brevard quickly responded with a goal of their own to the game for a third time.
 
However, Whitson tallied three goals over the next four minutes to give Greensboro a 9-6 lead before going on to secure the three-goal victory.  Madison Blashaw and Logan Schnabl also scored in the second half for Greensboro.
 
"The girls played really hard today," Head Coach Kevin Birmingham said. "We made some mistakes in the first half but were able to correct them over the final 30 minutes.
 
"The entire coaching staff is really proud of how the girls finished the game. We will get back to practice and start preparing for Ferrum on Wednesday."
 
Whitson finished the day with a game-high five goals, while Elizabeth Carr picked up a career-high 10 ground balls. Sada Hollowell picked up the win in goal for Greensboro after recording eight saves.
