BUENA VISTA, Va. – The Greensboro College women's lacrosse team dropped their season opener to the Knights of Southern Virginia University Tuesday 19-7.
 
Southern Virginia scored the first three goals before Briar Martin scored off an assist from Madison Blashaw to pull the Pride to within two goals.
 
However, the Knights would go on to extend their lead to 9-1 before Peyton Joyce scored her first goal of the day to make the score 9-2 with 17:39 left in the half.
 
Over the final 17 minutes of the half, Joyce and Kara Whitson each scored a goal but Southern Virginia took a 14-4 lead into halftime.
 
Greensboro was unable to get any closer, falling by the 12-goal margin. Whitson scored two goals in the second while Blashaw had one goal.
 
Joyce possessed a team-high 11 draw controls and four groundballs while Whitson also had four groundballs.
