GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College men's lacrosse team used a five-goal fourth period to rally past Neumann University on Pride Field Monday 14-11.
Phillip Gerber gave Greensboro a one-goal lead in the fourth minute before Neumann scored the game's next three goals to take a 3-1 with 8:07 showing on the first period clock.
Greensboro then got a goal from
Michael Halladay to putt the Pride back to within one but the Knights struck three more times over the next four minutes to extend their lead to 6-2.
However, the Pride was able to pull within 6-4 heading into the second period after
Michael Meley and
Davis Miller found the back of the net over the final minute.
Over the next 15 minutes, the two teams traded goals back and forth before Neumann took a 9-7 lead into halftime. Miller,
Spencer Kontoulas, and
Dominic Scali accounted for Greensboro's goals in the period.
In the third period, both teams tallied two goals to send the game into the final period with the Knights leading 11-9.
Greensboro then began to mount their comeback as Scali struck for two goals over the first seven minutes to tie the game before Meley struck for two more goals to give the Pride a 13-11 advantage with 3:11 remaining on the clock.
Following Meley's final goal,
Michael Kiley put one final insurance goal on the board, as the Pride was able to hold on for the three-goal victory.
"Man I am very proud of how the guys battled back in today's game," Head Coach
Mike Foderaro said. "We overcame some early adversity and finished the game by winning tough ground balls, making the extra pass, and finishing in front of the cage.
"Our defense and our goal keeper really locked things down in the second half. This was a great win and we will get back at it to prepare for Ferrum on Wednesday. The boys are buzzing."
Miller, Meley, and Scali each finished with three goals on the afternoon, while Miller Kiley, Halladay, and Meley combined for nine assists.
Kyle Ishler picked up the win in goal after recording nine saves while Brendan Risley took the loss for the Knights.
The Pride men will return to action at 3 p.m. Wednesday when they host the Panthers of Ferrum College. For more information on Greensboro College men's lacrosse, continue to follow
