GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College men's basketball team fell to the Pacers of William Peace University on Senior Day Saturday 104-90.
William Peace jumped out to 8-2 lead over the first 3:43 before Greensboro went on a 7-1 run to tie the game behind for points from
Eric Peaks Jr.
Once Greensboro tied the game, the two teams traded the lead back and forth over the next 10 minutes before the Pacers used a 16-5 run to take a 44-32 lead before Greensboro got baskets from
Carmoni Marks and
Greyson Collins over the final 34 seconds to make the score 44-36 at the break.
Over the first 2:06 of the second, William Peace extended their lead to 13 points before the Pride came roaring back with a 10-2 run to pull back to within five.
Michael Phifer got the run started with a long three-pointer before
Keyford Langley also hit from three-point land. Marks and Peaks Jr. also had one basket.
Following a pair of free throws by William Peace, Greensboro continued to battle back as they pulled to within 59-57 after Marks hit two free throws with15:23 on the clock.
The Pacers then quickly extended their lead back out to nine with a 7-0 run and the Pride was unable to get any closer than four over the final 11:25 before falling by the 14-point margin.
"The physicality late in the game really hurt us and we just were not able to counter on what they were throwing at us," Head Coach
Bryan Galuski said. "It was a special day for Carmoni and Dante. They are two of the finest young men that a coach can have in his program."
Peaks Jr. finished with a game-high 21 points while Phifer and Marks both finished with 13. Collins chipped in 17 points and five rebounds.
