GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College men's soccer team topped the Tornados of Brevard College on senior day Saturday 1-0.
The two teams played very physical in the first half and went into the break in a scoreless tie.
In the early minutes of the second half,
Darli Mihindou took advantage of a Brevard mistake and was able to give the Pride a one-goal lead. Following a bad pass from the Tornados outside back, Mihindou dribbled past two defenders and blasted a shot into the right corner of the goal for his team-leading ninth goal of the season.
The Greensboro defense then held strong over the remainder of the game and secured the one-goal shutout victory.
The Pride outshot the Tornados 12-5 on the day with five shots on goal, while the Tornados did not get a single shot on goal.
Elmer Martinez picked up his third win of the season in goal.
Prior to the start of the game, Greensboro recognized seniors
Gerardo Peraza and
Jacob Owens.
"I am glad that we were able to get a good result against a tough opponent on senior day," Head Coach
Tony Falvino said. "I thought the first half was tough for us to get into rhythm with all the emotion of senior day. Second half the boy's work rate increased and our level of play did as well. We were able to score early and continue fighting for each other.
"We have a very short turnaround as we play Piedmont tomorrow and we need to make sure we continue to come together and play for each other."
The Pride men will return to action at 1 p.m. Sunday when they host the Lions of Piedmont College. For more information on Greensboro College men's soccer, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
