Pride Women Tame Monarchs In USA South Action

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Nichelle Jeffries tallied a team-high 13 points as the Greensboro College women's basketball team topped the Monarchs of Methodist University Sunday 67-56.
 
Greensboro raced out to an 8-0 lead to start the game. Katie Lewis got the run started with a shot from the right wing before Brianna Best and A'Liyah Woods combined for the next six points.
 
Following the opening run, Methodist would pull within five points before the Pride was able to take a 16-8 lead into the second period after a Lewis three-point play with 25 seconds showing on the clock. 
 
On the first possession of the second period, Sabria Joseph connected on her first three-point attempt of the afternoon to push the Pride advantage to 19-8 before taking their largest lead of the half at 34-19 with 3:07 showing on the clock.
 
Despite holding on to the 15-point advantage, Greensboro went scoreless over the span, which allowed the Monarchs to pull within 34-22 at halftime.
 
Out of the break, Greensboro continued to play solid on both ends of the floor and was able to extend their lead out to 48-30 after outscoring the Monarchs 14-8 over the first seven minutes of the period.
 
However, the Monarchs would not allow the Pride to pull away any further as Greensboro took a 17-point lead into the final 10 minutes of action.
 
Greensboro was then able to hold on in the fourth period to secure the 11-point victory.
 
Woods joined Jeffries in double figures with 10 while Lauren Whitley and Best had nine points each. Greensboro also finished the game with 18 assists on 25 made baskets as Woods, Joseph, Shaiajah Dailey, Lewis, and Makayla Williams has three each.
