LYNCHBURG, Va.-- The Greensboro College men's soccer team shutout the Wildcats of Randolph College Friday, 3-0.
Randolph outshot Greensboro 2-0 in the first 18 minutes of the contest, but the Pride offense answered back with their first goal.
In the 19th minute, Darli Mihindou, who was named USA South men's soccer player of the week on Monday, scored his fourth goal of the season off of an assist from Carlos Barragan to lift Greensboro up 1-0.
The score remained 1-0 leading into the second half.Â
Randolph's offense recorded four shots within the first 20 minutes of the second half, but the Pride's defense remained as strong as a brick wall as freshman Elmer Martinez recorded three saves off of the four shots.
In the 72nd minute, freshman William Curry helped the Pride extend their lead to 2-0 with his first goal of the season.Â
Barragan then scored six minutes later off of a penalty kick to help secure Greensboro's first shutout victory of the season.
The Wildcats continued to try to break through Greensboro's defense, but were unable to get past Martinez, who ended the night with six saves.
"I want to congratulate the boys on a good win and clean sheets" said Head Coach Tony Falvino. "We battled well as a team against an aggressive and direct team. I am proud of all the boys for all the hard work so far and we will continue to grow as a team.
"We have to get back to work and move towards the tough match Wednesday at home against North Carolina Wesleyan."
The Pride now turns its attention to Wednesday's game against USA South opponent North Carolina Wesleyan College for their home opener starting at 2 p.m.
