DANVILLE, Va. — The Greensboro College men's soccer team defeated the Cougars of Averett University Friday, 2-0.
After the two teams played the first 45 minutes to a scoreless draw, the Pride broke into the scoring column when Ryan Mule found the back of the net off an assist by Gerardo Peraza in the 54th minute.
Just five minutes following the Mule goal, Jordy Briceno took the ball away from the Cougars keeper and tucked it past the far post to extend the Greensboro lead to 2-0.
Over the remainder of the game, Averett tried to counter but the Pride defense stood strong to secure the shutout victory.
"It was good to get a win on the road," Head Coach Tony Falvino said. "I thought we played well as team today as we created a lot of very good opportunities. Unfortunately, we didn't finish at the level we are capable of.
"We now have to focus on next week's two games."
Elmer Martinez picked up the win in goal after tallying four saves.
The Pride men will return to action on Thursday when they travel to Piedmont International University. For more information on Greensboro College men's soccer, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
