GREENSBORO, N.C.-- The Greensboro College women's soccer team won their home opener 1-0 against the Guilford College Quakers Friday.

Both teams pushed down the field, but neither was able to connect for a goal in the first half.

As time dwindled down in the second half, Greensboro forced their way into Quaker territory. Greensboro took four shots in the last 10 minutes, but Guilford's defense forced the game into overtime.

With only 10 minutes in overtime, Greensboro pushed back into Quaker territory. Junior Mercedes Bauza went wide with less than 10 seconds remaining.

Bauza kept control of the ball and found freshman McKaley Boston for a header to secure the one-goal victory with only one second on the clock.

"It's always great to start the season 1-0," Head Coach Gus Mota said. "It's also great to defeat your cross-town rivals.

"Today was a thrilling overtime win, but there is still a lot we have to work on."
