GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College baseball team fell to the Quakers of Guilford College Wednesday, 14-4.
Despite the loss, the Pride won the season series against the Quakers, 2-1.
Guilford College took a 6-0 lead into the bottom half of the second inning before Greensboro got on the board with an RBI single by
Blake Carroll.
With the Pride trailing by the five-run deficit, the Quakers added five more runs to their advantage over the next two innings but Greensboro got another run in the bottom half of the fourth on a RBI fielder's choice by
Brady Dignan.
Guilford then scored the game's next three runs, extending their lead to 14-2, before Greensboro scored two runs on a one-out double to the left-center field gap by
Chance Bryant.
After both teams threatened over the final three innings, neither team was able to push a run across the plate with the game ending in the Quakers favor.
Bryant, Carroll and
Hunter Curtis had two hits each for the Pride.
Tyler Garam took the loss on the mound.
"Its always tough taking a loss from your crosstown rival, but there was some bright spots today," head coach
Frank Maldonado said. "Chance (Bryant) was impressive behind the plate and catching, while Hunter (Curtis) continues to play the game at a high level.
"
Cameron Whitson caught some tough luck but had good command on the mound and
Austin Nixon pitched well despite not pitching much this season. You have to have a short memory in the game of baseball and we will get back at it tomorrow with a great practice."
The Pride will return to action Sunday when they travel to Washington & Lee University for a doubleheader. For more information on Greensboro College baseball, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
