GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College softball team dropped a pair of USA South Athletic Conference games to the Spirits of Salem College Sunday.
Greensboro dropped Game 1 in eight innings, 4-3, before taking an 8-0 loss in Game 2.
The Spirits jumped out to an early one-run lead in the top half of the first inning before Greensboro responded back to tie the game in the home half.
Jasmine Worthy led off the inning with a single through the middle of the infield before coming in to score the tying run on a
Taylor Little double down the right field line.
The score then remained the same until the Pride to their first lead of the contest on an
Allyson Loy single to right-center field, scoring
Regan Lockwood from third base.
Despite holding on to the 2-1 lead, the Pride was unable to record a shutdown inning in the fifth as Salem regained the lead at 3-2 with a two-run fifth inning.
However, Greensboro was able to tie the game in the seventh inning on another RBI hit by Little to send the game into extra innings, but Salem scored one run in the top of the eighth inning to take the one-run victory after retiring the Pride in the bottom half.
Greensboro College out hit the Spirts, 10-8. Little finished with a team-high three hits, while Worthy and Lockwood had two hits apiece.
Maddy Wetherholt suffered the loss in the pitching circle.
Following the Game 1 loss, Greensboro was unable to get their offense going in the nightcap, falling 8-0 in six innings.
Hayley Tickle recorded the Pride's lone hit in the game, while
Cheyanne Cox took the loss.
"We have a very competitive conference and know that we have to be locked in on every pitch," Head Coach
Teresa Fister said.
