GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College men's lacrosse team fell to the Tornados of Brevard College Saturday, 12-8.
The Tornados tallied the game's first three goals before
Andrew Klementz struck for his first goal of the game to pull Greensboro to within two goals.
Following the Klementz goal, both teams struck for two goals over the final five minutes of the period, giving the Tornados a 5-3 lead heading into the second.
Spencer Kontoulas and Klementz had the goals for Greensboro, while
Victor Mehrtens added a assist.
In the second period, Brevard was able to keep Greensboro off the board, while adding four goals, to take a 9-3 lead into halftime.
However, the Greensboro offense came to life in the third period, scoring three unanswered goals, pulling within three goals at 9-7. The three-goal rally was energized by a no-look behind the back goal by Klementz.
The two teams then traded goals for the remainder of the game, which prevented the Pride from getting any closer than two goals over the final 15 minutes.
"We came out flat again today and Brevard's talented attack took advantage of it," Head Coach
Mike Foderaro said. "I will praise the guys on not giving up an battling back to make it a competitive game."
Klementz finished with a game-high three goals, while Mehrtens has two goals and two assists.
Austin Bane,
Kyle Dahlin and
Spencer Kontoulas had one goal each.
Stephen Tanner took the loss in goal despite recording six saves.
The Pride men will return to action Wednesday when they travel to Ferrum College. For more information on Greensboro College men's lacrosse, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
