RALEIGH, N.C. – The Greensboro College softball team split a doubleheader with the Pacers of William Peace University Saturday.
William Peace won Game 1, 4-3, before the Pride battled back to take Game 2, 6-1.
"Every inning today we continue to compete and elevate our game," Head Coach
Teresa Fister said. "Our pitching staff and defense are doing a stellar job.
"Offensively, we linked hits together to put runs on the board."
Game one
William Peace took a 2-0 lead in the first inning before Greensboro used a three-run fourth inning to take a one-run lead of their own.
After
Allyson Loy and
Kaylee Johnson reached base safely,
Jasmine Worthy laced a two RBI triple to the gap before coming in to score the go ahead run on a
Melissa Garcia groundout.
The score then remained the same until the bottom of the sixth when the Pacers score the game's final two runs to secure the victory.
Johnson finished with a team-leading two hits, while
Maddy Wetherholt was credited with the loss.
Game two
Greensboro quickly took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when
Cassie Collins hit a single to left field, plating Worthy from third base, before the Pacers tied the game in the home half.
Collins then gave Greensboro the lead once again in the fourth inning before Greensboro went on to tack on the game's final four runs in the fourth inning to secure the five-run victory.
Cheyanne Cox tallied a RBI double in the inning, while Worthy and Garcia had RBI singles. Cox also earned the pitching win and tallied 13 strikeouts.
Haley Tickle went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate, while Worthy and Garcia had two hits each.
