GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College men's lacrosse team defeated the Pacers of William Peace University Wednesday, 10-5.
Within the first five minutes of the game, the Pride struck first as
Philip Gerber threaded the ball in off a feed from
Michael Halladay.
After the Pacers answered back with a goal of their own, Gerber connected with
Ryan Cole to take back the lead at 2-1.
Over the remainder of the first half, Greensboro's
Andrew Klementz,
Victor Mehrtens and
Joseph Stump tacked on one goal each to extend the Pride's lead to 5-2.
The Pacers recorded their third goal immediately after halftime, but
Victor Mehrtens answered back less than two minutes later with an unassisted goal.
William Peace continued to battle, but the Pride's offense remained persistent and locked in the five-point victory.
"That was a great win for the guys to get today," Head Coach
Mike Foderaro said. "The guys did a great job executing the game plan today. The defense continued to lock it down and the offense played very unselfish lacrosse.
"It's always a little special to get conference wins."
Spencer Kontoulas, Mehrtens and Cole each laced in two goals, while
Patrick Bell picked up a game-high eight ground balls and won 11-of-18 of his faceoff attempts. Freshman
Aiden Karmazinkski caused a game-high two turnovers.
The Pride will return to Pride Field Friday when they host Alma College at 12 p.m. For more information on Greensboro College men's lacrosse, continue to follow
