Softball Splits Doubleheader With Guilford

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College softball team split a two-game series with the Quakers of Guilford College Sunday.

Guilford took Game 1, 7-3, before the Pride bounced back to win Game 2, 5-3.

"We continued to prove to ourselves today that together, as a team, we can compete at a high level," Head Coach Teresa Fister said.

Game 1
Guilford took a four-run lead into the fifth inning before Greensboro was able to push their first run across on a wild pitch.

After Kaylee Johnson came across to score, pulling Greensboro to within three runs, Cheyanne Cox recorded and RBI sacrifice fly in the sixth inning.

However, Guilford added to their lead with a three-run bottom to take a 7-2 lead into the seventh.

Greensboro tried to get a rally going in the seventh, but was only able to push one run across as Lilly Baucom scored on a passed ball.

Cassie Collins, Melissa Garcia, and Baucom had two hits each for Greensboro.  Cox took the loss despite striking out five batters.

Game 2
Greensboro was able to take an early 1-0 lead in the second inning when Jasmine Worthy laced a single into center field to score Collins from third base.

Despite holding on to the one-run advantage, Guilford went on to score the game's next three runs to take a 3-1 lead into sixth inning.

The Pride then scored two runs in the sixth and seventh innings to secure the two-run victory. Garcia, Regan Lockwood and Johnson each had RBI hits in the inning.

Worthy finished with a game-high three hits, while Garcia, Lockwood, and Johnson had two hits apiece. Maddy Wetherholt earned the win to stay perfect on the season.

The Pride softball team will return to action Wednesday when they travel to Randolph College. For more information on Greensboro College softball, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
