Softball Drops Two Games To Randolph On Road

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Greensboro College softball team dropped a pair of games to the Wildcats of Randolph College Wednesday.

The Pride suffered a 2-1 setback in game one before falling in game 2, 3-0.

Greensboro wasted no time taking an early in game one.

In the top half of the first inning, Jasmine Worthy reached base with a single before advancing into scoring position on a Wildcats error.

After the Pride was unable to plate Worthy with their next two batters, Hayley Tickle laced a single into centerfield to score her from second base, giving Greensboro the lead.

The score then remained the same for the next 5 ½ innings until the Wildcats were able to score, two runs in the bottom half of the sixth inning to take a one-run lead of their own.

Following the two-run sixth by the Wildcats, Greensboro was able to get a runner into scoring position in their final plate appearance after a two-out double by Kaylee Johnson, but was unable to tie the game, falling by the 2-1 score.

Johnson finished the game with a team-high two hits, while Worthy, Tickle and Taylor Little each had one hit apiece. Cheyanne Cox struck out six batters in the loss.

In the second game, Greensboro was unable to get anything going at the plate and was not able to recover from a two-run first inning by the Wildcats.

Greensboro tallied just four hits in the game as Cayleigh Norton, Cox, Worthy and Regan Lockwood had one hit each. Maddy Wetherholt, who suffered her first loss of the season, struck out two batters over five innings, while Kelsey Swaim pitched one inning.

"We had some moments of momentum today, but overall we were unable to put it all together to come out on top," Head Coach Teresa Fister said. "As team, we know what we need to work on and we are looking forward to competing this weekend."

The Pride will return to action Saturday when they host the Falcons of Pfeiffer University. For more information on Greensboro College softball, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
