Women's Basketball Falls In USA South Semifinals

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College women's basketball team fell to the Lions of Piedmont College in the semifinals of the USA South Athletic Conference Tournament Saturday, 62-50.

Piedmont jumped out to a three-point lead early before Greensboro used a 5-0 run to gain their first lead of the game at 5-3. Rasheika Gregory got the run started before Kylee Barry and Sabria Joseph combined for three free throws.

Following the short Greensboro run, neither team was able to get their offense going as the teams went into the second period tied at seven.

Over the next 10 minutes of action, Piedmont outscored Greensboro, 15-9, to take a 22-16 lead into halftime. Katie Lewis scored five points in the period and Laprecious England and Domonique McCoy had two points each.

Piedmont was then able to extend their lead out to 19-points at the start of the fourth quarter before Greensboro responded with a 7-0 run midway through the final 10 minutes to pull back to within seven points at 57-50.

Despite trying to climb their way back in the game, Greensboro was unable to get any closer, falling by the 12-point margin.

"We played very hard today but just struggled shooting the ball," Head Coach Randy Tuggle said. "We never gave up, and to their credit we still had a chance.

"I hate that my seniors ended their career with a loss, but I want to thank them for allowing me to get to coach them. We got another championship because of them."

Lewis finished with a team-high 14 points, while England finished with nine points. Lauren Jenkins paced Greensboro in rebounds with 10.

With the loss, the Pride women close the books on their 2017-2018 with an overall record of 20-7.
