DANVILLE, Va. – The Greensboro College men's lacrosse team topped the Cougars of Averett University in their first ever USA South Athletic Conference sponsored men's lacrosse game Saturday, 18-2.
 
Greensboro College took a 4-0 lead into the second period before Austin Bane took an assist from Victor Mehrtens and found the back of the net to push the lead to 5-0.
 
Following the Bane goal, Averett scored the game's next goal before Greensboro ran off 10-straight goals over the next 24 minutes of play to establish a 15-1 lead. During the scoring spree, Michael Halladay and Joseph Stump had two goals apiece, while Mehrtens, Spencer Kontoulas, Ryan Cole, Tommy Barrett, Hunter Goodale and Kyle Dahlin had one goal each.
 
Averett then scored their second and final goal of the game just three minutes into the final period, but the Pride struck for three more goals to secure the 16-goal victory.
 
"I am happy for the team tonight as they were able to get the win," Head Coach Mike Foderaro said. "We moved the ball really well and played great defense.

"It is nice to get the first win of the season."
 
Greensboro College outshot the Cougars on the day, 70-12, while winning 19-of-23 face-offs.  Patrick Bell won 18 face-offs, while Philip Gerber won his lone face-off of the day. Ryan Cole finished with a game-high three goals and one assist, while Andrew Klementz, Bane, Stump, Kontoulas and Halladay had two goals each.
 
Stephen Tanner earned the win in goal for the Pride, while Cody Hammock and Tim Martin also saw time between the pipes.
