GREENSBORO, N.C. – Despite a game-high 28 points by
Katie Lewis, the Greensboro College women's basketball team suffered their first loss of the season to the Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan University, 79-73.
Greensboro started out the first period hot and scored the first 11 points of the game before establishing their largest lead of the game at 15-2, following a Lewis jumper, with 5:30 on the clock.
During the early run,
A'Liyah Woods tallied six points and Lewis chipped in five.
The Pride was then able to maintain their lead until four minutes into second period when the Marlins tied the game at 22.
Over the final six minutes of the half, the Marlins would go on to lead by as many as four points on two separate occasions before Woods hit from long range just before the end of the period to pull Greensboro to within one at 30-29.
Following intermission, Virginia Wesleyan was able to establish a 45-38 advantage over the first seven minutes of the third period before Greensboro used a 10-2 run to regain the lead at 48-47.

"You always had to lose games that you have a chance to win," Head Coach

Woods joined Lewis in double figures scoring with 14 and
Sabria Joseph added 12 points to go along with seven rebounds.
At the conclusion of the tournament, Lewis was also named to the All-Tournament team.
