VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Greensboro College men's basketball team fell to the Falcons of Messiah College Saturday to close out the 2018 Marlin Tipoff Classic, 91-76.
Greensboro quickly got on the board in their first possession of the ballgame when
Keyford Langley hit from long range before the Falcons would use a 7-0 run to take a four-point lead.
The Pride was then able to come back to take a 10-9 lead behind a three-pointer by
Michael Phifer and a layup by
Carmoni Marks and Langley.
Following Langley's layup, the Falcons were able to jump back in front by as many as four over the next three minutes before the Pride tied the game for a third time at 20.
Messiah then went on a 17 point run to take a 37-20 lead before going into halftime with a 24-point advantage at 56-32.
In the second half, the Pride would try to chip away at the deficit but was unable to come any closer than 18 points before
Zachary Moser hit a three-pointer for the game's final basket.
"We just could not make shots and defend today after coming off a very tough and emotional loss last night," Head Coach
Bryan Galuski said. "Messiah pounded on us pretty hard but our guys did not give up and kept fighting. In the end we were just really tired."
Marks and Langley combined for 33 points and seven rebounds on the afternoon, while
Justin Minnis and Phifer combined for 22 points.
Keyshawn Dorsey, who finished with a team-high 10 rebounds, finished with nine points.
The Pride men will return to action Tuesday when they host the Wildcats of Randolph College at 7:30 p.m. For more information on Greensboro College men's basketball, continue to follow
