GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College volleyball team fell to the Cougars of Averett University Wednesday, 3-0.
The first set was a seesaw affair as both teams put together five point runs to exchange the lead over the first half before the Cougars prevailed, 25-22, to take a 1-0 lead.
Despite dropping the opening set, Greensboro continued to battle in Set 2 before falling by a 25-16 mark to go into a must win third set trailing 2-0.
In the third, Averett jumped out to a 13-9 lead before Greensboro rallied back to within two a 22-20, following a kill by
Alycia Artis.
However, the Pride's run would come up just short at the Cougars closed out the match with a 25-21 win.
"I was extremely proud of my team's effort tonight," Head Coach
Kevin Troup said. "We did a good job of serving tough this evening, which kept Averett out of their system.
"We will continue getting better each day and are looking forward to getting back at it tomorrow."
Artis finished with a team-high seven kills and two blocks, while
Tori Belcher had six kills.
Grayce Goins finished with 15 digs on the evening and
Katie Clark passed for 21 assists.
The Pride will return to action Saturday when they travel to William Peace University for their final USA South Athletic Conference Tri-Match of the season. Greensboro will take on host Pacers at 12 p.m. before squaring off with the Monarchs of Methodist University at 2 p.m.
