Baseball Suffers Three-Run Defeat In Series Finale With Pacers

CARY, N.C. – The Greensboro College baseball team fell in the third game of a three-game USA South Athletic Conference set against William Peace University Sunday, 6-3.

William Peace scored five runs in the fourth inning before adding one more run in the fifth inning to take a 5-0 lead.

The score remained the same until the Pride plated three runs in the ninth inning to pull within 6-3 but could not get any closer.

Jimmy Short scored the Pride's first run on a Hunter Curtis groundout. Brandon Soden followed that and scored Braedon Jewett with a triple to center field.

The Pride then got their final run when Soden came across the plate on a Jacob Rodriguez single to left field.

Rodriguez finished with a team-high three hits, while Short and Soden had two hits each. Josh Evans pitched the first four innings and was credited with the loss, while Tyler Garam and Cameron Whitson combined to pitch the final four innings.

"We dropped another tough one today but I am extremely proud of what these guys have accomplished during conference play," Head Coach Frank Maldonado said. "A new season starts tomorrow as we prepare for the conference tournament Wednesday."

The Pride baseball team will return to action in LaGrange, Ga. at 8 p.m. Wednesday with the first game of the USA South Athletic Conference Tournament against No.3-seed North Carolina Wesleyan.
