GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College men's lacrosse team celebrated their three senior players playing in their final games for the Pride before the game. The Pride would fall to the visiting Hawks of Huntingdon College Saturday, 11-7.
Greensboro got on the board first, when
Kyle Dahlin caught a pass from senior
Tamarie Sterling behind the cage and beat the Hawks goalie, with 11:41 remaining in the first quarter. The Hawks would respond and score two unassisted goals, taking the 2-1 lead with 6:24 remaining. The Pride tied the game on a man-up goal from Dahlin again, this time assisted by
Victor Mehrtens.
The Hawks would get one more before the end of the quarter, taking the one goal advantage.
The Pride would score the first goal of the second quarter just 45 seconds in, when
Davis Miller scored off another Mehrtens assist. The Hawks then scored two more goals to give themselves a 5-3 lead with 7:10 left in the second quarter.
Senior
Daniel Wolf would get the Pride within a goal of tying, when he scored off a feed from Miller with 5:36 remaining in the quarter.
Both teams would trade goals back and forth to start the third quarter. Huntingdon got the scoring started with a goal. The Pride answered back as
Austin Bane would score a solo goal.
The Hawks tacked on another goal with 5:00 left in the third quarter. Greensboro responded with 2:39 left in the quarter, when seniors
Daniel Wolf and
Tamarie Sterling connected to make the score 7-6.
Huntingdon would score the final goal of the quarter with just 55 seconds remaining to take the two-goal advantage into the final quarter.
The final quarter would be mostly the Hawks as they would score three more goals, compared to the Pride's one. The Pride's final goal was again by senior
Daniel Wolf from a
Davis Miller assists.
Miller and Dahlin led the Pride in shots with seven each, while senior
Austin Schmitt led the team with four ground balls.
Chris DiBlasi took the loss in the cage for the Pride, making twelve saves.
"We had a great turnout today from our fans, alumni, and senior families." Said head coach
Mike Foderaro, "The guys played hard this game and all season, I am really looking forward to what the future holds for this team."
