Pride Women Coast Past Ferrum

FERRUM, Va. – Natalie Ritchey and Mackenzie Flemmons led the Pride on the day, scoring four goals each, as the Pride women's lacrosse team dominated Ferrum College Saturday, 16-8.

Ferrum scored the game's first goal just two minutes into the contest.

The Pride then responded with three goals in two minutes to take a two-goal lead.  Laine Walston scored the first goal off an assist from Ritchey before scoring a goal of her own. Walston then scored once again with 25:32 remaining in the first half.

Ferrum then pulled to within 3-2 a few minutes later but Kara Whitson and Ritchey would extend the Greensboro lead to 5-2 lead with 18:24 to play in the first half.

The Panthers scored their third and final goal of the half to close the gap to 5-3, but the Pride would score five more times before the break to take a 10-3 lead into halftime.  Goals were scored by Christina SanGiacomo, Mackenzie Flemmons, Walston, Devan Macheras, Whitson, and Ritchey in that order.

Natalie Ritchey would score her third goal of the game just 57 seconds into the second half on a man-up opportunity.

The Panthers responded a few minutes later to make the score 11-4 before the Pride scored another flurry of goal.

Flemmons would score twice with Ritchey and SanGiacomo adding a goal each to extend the Pride's lead to 15-4 with 10:41 remaining.

Ferrum would try to close the gap and go on a streak of their own to pull within 15-7 with three straight goals.

However, it would be too little too late.  Flemmons would score her fourth goal of the game and the Pride's final goal of the game.

Ferrum would score again with just 21 seconds remaining but the Pride would already have the large 16-8 lead.

Walston led the Pride in shots with eight, while Macheras would lead the team in ground balls with six.  Kianna Anderson notched another win in goal, while making six saves.
