Softball Sweeps Methodist In USA South Action On Senior Day

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College softball team moved into a third-place tie in the USA South Athletic Conference standings with a doubleheader sweep of Methodist University Saturday.
 
Greensboro rebounded from an early deficit in the first game to win, 5-2, before blasting the Monarchs, 11-4, in game two.
 
Methodist took a 2-0 lead into the bottom half of the fifth inning of game one before Greensboro scored five runs to secure the three-run victory.
 
Hayley Rumley plated Madison Crisco and Brittainy Rush with a double to left-center field before coming in to score on a Methodist error.
 
Greensboro then got a RBI double from Cassie Collins before Kaylee Johnson came across for the game's final run on a wild pitch.
 
Rumley had a team-high two hits, while Kali Puckett, Rush, and Collins had one hit each. Maddy Wetherholt, who picked up her conference best 13th win of the season, recorded nine strikeouts over her seven innings of action.
 
The Greensboro bats then came to life in the second game as Melissa Garcia and Mandi Ballard recorded RBI singles in the first inning to give Greensboro a two-run lead.
 
However, Methodist evened the score in the top half of the second inning before Greensboro answered with four runs in the bottom half.
 
Taylor Little scored Rush form first base with a double to left-center field for the first run of the inning before Crisco, Rumley, and Collins had RBI hits.
 
After Methodist got  another run in the third inning, Crisco extended the Pride lead to 8-3 in the bottom half with a 2 RBI triple to left field before coming in to score on a wild pitch to make the score 9-3.
 
Collins and Ballard then had RBI singles to push the advantage to 11-3 before Methodist scored one final run in the fifth inning to pull within seven but could not get any closer.
 
Crisco had a team-high three hits, while Rumley, Collins, Ballard, Rush, and Little had two hits each. Hayley Tickle earned the victory after pitching the first four innings before giving way to Wetherholt who recorded her second save of the season.
