DANVILLE, Va. – The Greensboro College softball team dropped their first two USA South Athletic Conference games Saturday at Averett University.
The Pride dropped the first game, 1-0, before suffering a 9-0 defeat in Game 2.
Game One
Melissa Garcia singled for the game's first hit in the first inning before stealing second base to get into scoring position.
Later in the inning, Greensboro got another runner into scoring position but the Cougars were able to get out of the inning with allowing a run.
After neither team was able to push a run across in the first three innings, Averett plated one run in the bottom half of the fourth inning to take a 1-0 lead.
Despite putting runners on base over the final three innings, Greensboro was not able to find the equalizer as the fell by the one-run margin.
Greensboro outhit the Cougars in the game 7-5.
Kali Puckett and
Mandi Ballard had two hits each, while
Cassie Collins, Garcia, and
Taylor Little had one hit each.
Hayley Tickle pitched a complete game but was credited with the loss.
Game Two
After neither team was able to push a run across over the first two innings, Averett plated seven runs in the third inning and did not look back before going on to win by the nine-run margin.
Ballard and Puckett had one hit each for the Pride, while
Maddy Wetherholt was credited with the loss after giving up seven runs in the first three innings. Collins pitched the final inning and gave up two runs.
