RALEIGH, N.C. – The Greensboro College softball team dropped two USA South Athletic Conference games Sunday to Meredith College.
The Pride dropped Game 1 by a 2-1 score before suffering a defeat in Game 2, 3-1.
Meredith scored the first two runs of Game 1 before the Pride got on the board in the fifth inning with a well-executed double steal.
After
Taylor Little doubled to lead off the inning,
Melissa Garcia moved her over to third base with a single to left field. Following the single, Garcia stole second base while Little stole home on the play.
The Angles were then able to end the inning before securing the one-run victory.
Cassie Collins had a team-high two hits, while Little and Garcia had one hit each.
Hayley Tickle was credited with the complete game loss.
Greensboro then responded from Game 1 by taking an early one-run lead in the second inning of Game 2 after
Hayley Rumley plated
Brittainy Rush with a single to center field.
Despite the quick start, the Pride was unable to hold the lead as Meredith scored the game's final two runs to take the two-run win.
Kali Puckett and Rumley had two hits each, while
Mandi Ballard, Rush, and Garcia had one hit each.
Maddy Wetherholt recorded three strikeouts in the loss.
The Pride softball team will return to action at 1 p.m. Thursday when they travel to Wake Technical Community College for an exhibition doubleheader. For more information on Greensboro College softball, continue to follow
