GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College women's lacrosse team fell to Guilford College Wednesday in a game that featured 9 ties and 5 lead changes, 11-10.
Guilford took a one-goal lead just 52 seconds into the game before
Mackenzie Flemmons tied the game at one two minutes later.
The Quakers then pulled out to a 3-1 lead but
Devan Macheras and Flemmons scored to tie the game once again at 3-3.
After Guilford retook the lead, the Pride got goals from
Christina SanGiacomo and
Natalie Ritchey to give them their first lead of the contest at 5-4.
However, the lead would not hold as Guilford found the equalizer with 6:41 showing on the first half clock before going into the half tied at six.
The two teams then traded goals over the first 10 minutes of the second period before Ritchey gave Greensboro a 9-8 lead off an assist from
Kelsey Cenate.
Guilford went on to take a 10-9 lead following two unanswered goals but Flemmons tied the game with 1:50 remaining for her third goal of the contest.
The score remained tied until Guilford recorded the deciding goal with less than a minute to play.
Ritchey finished with three goals and two assists, while Flemmons also had three goals. SanGiacomo and
Peyton Joyce possessed a team-high three draw controls.
Kianna Anderson took the loss in goal despite recording nine saves.
"The girls played really hard today but it just did not go our way in the end," Head Coach
Christie Hebert said. "The whole team showed a lot of heart and determination.
"We will now get back to practice and get ready for our conference weekend."
