Women's Lacrosse Falls To Piedmont

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College women's lacrosse team fell to Piedmont College in USA South Athletic Conference action Sunday, 12-7.

Piedmont opened a 5-0 lead 20 minutes into the first period before Mackenzie Flemmons scored off an assist by Laine Walston to pull Greensboro within four goals.

Peyton Joyce then pulled the Pride to within 5-2 one minute later before the Lions were able to strike again to take a 6-2 lead into halftime.

The Pride and the Lions then traded goals over the first 15-minutes of the final half. Walston tallied two goals during the span, while Joyce also added one goal.

After Piedmont scored to make the score 11-5, Greensboro got goals by Joyce and Christina SanGiacomo to pull the Pride back within four goals but could not get any closer as the Pride fell by the five-goal margin.

"We came out flat from the first whistle," Head Coach Christie Hebert. "In the sport of women's lacrosse, it is extremely hard to fight back from a large deficit.

"We made a lot of mistakes today but the girls never gave up and kept fighting. We are looking forward to getting back at it next week."

Joyce finished with a team-high three goals, while Walston added two goals. Elizabeth Carr picked up a team-high four groundballs and forced three turnovers.  Kianna Anderson made five saves on the day but was credited with the loss.

The Pride women will return to action at 7 p.m. Wednesday when they travel to Guilford College. For more information on Greensboro College women's lacrosse, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
